Caroline's Spanish Trip

In October I was lucky enough to be a guest of Kirker Holidays for a whistle stop tour of Andalucia.

In only 3 days we crammed in a city tour of Seville (with dinner at the iconic Alfonso XIII hotel), a tour of Carmona, a visit to Cordoba and the stunning Mesquite (Mosque), a tour of Jaen, Granada and the beautiful Alhambra Palace, and finally Malaga.  For some much needed sleep we were very well looked after by the outstanding and unique Paradores Hotels - a true experience of "real"Spain.

It was an honour to visit one of the most beautiful and interesting places inEurope, it's a trip I shall remember for a long time.  Whether you are interested in history, culture, architecture, religion, or (like me!) the food and wine, or simply wandering the streets of these incredibly beautiful towns and villages amongst theSierra Nevadamountains, there is something here for you.  And I can safely say we barely scratched the surface with regards to the cathedrals inSpain, apparently there are 91 of them!

Andalucia has so much to offer the discerning traveller, and though it was great to see the highlights and visit so many places in such a short space of time, I highly recommend a week or longer to take in as much as you can.  Deva and Kirker Holidays can tailor make the perfect trip, whether you'd like to adventure and flexibility of a self drive tour taking advantage of the Paradores, or the luxury of a private driver and guide, and some of the finest historic hotels in Europe.

The real surprise to me was the final night inMalaga- I have worked in travel for over 10 years now and have never consideredMalagaas a city break destination in itself, just a hub for the beaches of theCosta Del Sol.  However my opinion was completely changed - the old town centre was beautiful, the cathedral is stunning (especially lit up at night) and there is clearly a great mix of historical sightseeing, plus the modern side of town for shopping & nightlife.  I was really impressed with the choice of restaurants and bars, and they obviously catered for all budgets and tastes.  I would have loved more time to be able to visit the Picasso museum, and see what more Malaga has to offer.  In fact it's already in my head to take a short break there next year myself...
